Sears
Training
With the input I have received in regards to Training and the company is not willing to respond we do have other options. I am currently involved with setting up training and implementing a apprenticeship program through the IBEW Local 68.
Training, the company has informed the Union that it has budgeted 13,235 training hours for our district. We have approximately 164 associates in our bargaining unit. This equates to 80.7 hours of training per associate. As quoted by Mr. Mufic “hours and dollars for any account can change as the business changes during the course of the year.”
The IBEW is big on training. We will attempt to obtain some of the training hours so that members my attend classes at the training facilities located at 5660 Logan St. Denver Co.
Some of the courses that may be offered:
- OSHA 10 safety
- 70E Safety
- First Aid, CPR, AFD
- DC Theory
- AC Theory
- Semi conductors
- Motor Controls
- HVAC
We are also needing Safety Stewards.
OSHA 10 training will be a requirement which will be available though the Hall. After completion of training, Stewards will be involved with the OSHA Alliance group. Meeting dates will be posted on this site. E-Mail notices will also be available. Meetings will be held quarterly.
Safety Stewards will also participate in company held safety meetings and report back to the union on all issues covered at the company meetings.
With out union representation, We are "at will" Employees
If you are not a active member you need to thank the ones who are.
They may have to save your job someday.
Issues that need be covered at Safety Ready Meetings
Review numbers are down!!!!
- Driver alerts: Tech's should review Sears Driver’s Operating & Safety Manual, during paid hours of work. Do not jeopardize your job by trying to keep a time commitment, or because of the fact that you’re avoiding to work OT because you have personal commitments after normal working hours. Perform your vehicle safety inspection everyday per company policy. If by chance a customer should irritate you to the point you may become aggressive in your driving, take five or ten minutes to cool off after you leave their house pulled off on a side road.
- First time completes: Take time to listen to the customer, be sure you have given the customer time to fully explain the issues that they are having with the appliance in question.. Don’t jump to a conclusion before the customer has had the time to fully explain the problems. If a part is involved in the repairs, take the time to cycle the appliance to insure the issue has been resolved. Not only will this increase your 1st time completes, but it may improve your C-STAT score.
- Recalls: To prevent recalls, take the time to thoroughly diagnose the problem. If there is any doubts, take the time to contact STAC and discuss what you have found in your diagnoses. If you don’t feel comfortable with STACS decision, take the time to consult with a senior tech.
- Safety: Be sure you do a complete vehicle safety inspection everyday, per company policy. If there is an issue with you vehicle get it scheduled for repairs. If you don’t have the proper tools to do the job, don’t risk you safety or the possibility of damaging customer’s property. If the job requires two men to remove or lift don’t risk your health. Avoid a workers comp claim do it right two men.
- VASP: Be sure you offer all products and services that Sears has to offer. Take time to explain how beneficial it would be to the customer to use Sears’s services.
- DO NOT DO YOUR CUSTOMER SURVEYS ON YOUR HOME COMPUTER: With all the emphasis on 5’s for your CSTAT”S, the way to achieve them is to be polite, take the time and explain the repair, fix it right the first time. Offer other Sears services and products.
